interesting這個字去查字典，意思是「很有趣」，但老外用這個字的時候，虛實不定，有時是正面有時是負面，取決於情境。來看劍橋字典的解釋：(1)引起人興趣的事 Someone or something that is interesting keeps your attention because he, she, or it is unusual, exciting, or has a lot of ideas:It is always interesting to hear other people's point of view.知道別人的觀點是件有趣的事。(2)很奇怪、與眾不同（humorous）strange or different:She has a lot of interesting ideas, but they're not very practical.她有很多稀奇古怪的點子，但都不太實際。很多老外，特別是紳士派的英國人，當他要拒絕你的時候，用" That's interesting. "經常是幽默地表達「這行不通」的意思，保持職場的優雅，不那麼直白，這個時候一定要聽得懂。那是不是不能用interesting表示很有趣了呢？還是可以用，只是像Interesting這個字使用頻率很高，意義就變得模糊。當我們說The book is interesting.時，就變得有點空泛，聽的人不知道我們想表達的是什麼，除非你想刻意製造一點懸疑讓人摸不著頭緒。不用interesting，換具體一點的字：（空泛）The book is interesting.（具體）The book is intriguing.那書很精采，引人入勝，很多意想不到的情節。（具體）The book is amusing.那書很有趣，機智詼諧，很多笑點。另外，Interesting和interested這兩個字，十個學生裡有七、八個會搞錯。我們來搞懂其中差別：interesting→很有趣interested→對….很有興趣Interesting延伸的意思，大家熟悉的是「利息」，它還有一個意思是「股份」，例如：I have an interest in a startup company.我在一家新創公司持有股份。這句話也可以解作「我對新創公司有興趣」，但老外表達對事物的興趣，很少用have an interest，較常用be interested in／take an interest in。句子真正的涵義，總要在談話中才能真正理解。世界公民Weekly由世界公民文化中心提供(工商時報) var _c = new Date().getTime(); document.write('');
